The Children’s Theatre Company’s junior company stage the tale of little orphan Annie at 2.30pm and 7pm, April 12-13.

The 42-strong cast, aged five-14, have been rehearsing every Sunday since mid January. They’ve had an absolute blast.

“It’s such a feelgood, upbeat show with great characters and songs you just cannot help but sing along too. I never realised quite how emotional the song Tomorrow was until the auditions, I was a blubbering mess. There won’t be a dry eye in the house,” said artistic director Bridie Rowe.

“There are lots of parts to cater for all of the talent in the company. We’ve even double cast some lead roles as the standard at auditions was so high. Each of them have their own take on the role and it means more of the children get an opportunity.”

A timeless classic the whole family can enjoy, it’s the first non-Disney show the junior company have tackled.

The set, designed specially for the show, is another first. Designer Mali-Beth Roberts has come up with something creative and innovative which lets Bridie direct the cast in the scene changes.

“We’re really excited to see it all come together,” she added.
