MRS Hill's appointment has caused ripples among local authority circles, with concerns about her appointment making front page news in an industry journal.

The Management Journal this week ran a story about the presence of a “back-bench threat” to her appointment, as revealed first in The Evening Star last week.

The past exploits of Suffolk's chief-executive-in-waiting have also come under the spotlight of a satirical magazine.

Private Eye features an article in its latest edition making mention of a number of decisions taken at Bedfordshire County Council during her time at the helm there.

This includes more than £500,000 being spent on a failed campaign to fight abolition under a unitary shake-up, a situation Suffolk County Council itself now faces.

The Management Journal also ran a double-page feature on the issue in which a recruitment expert revealed the industry is questioning whether Suffolk would have had a wider choice of candidates had it originally advertised the position with a £220,000 salary.
