WHAT a big weekend this is for me.

Something is about to happen that would have been unbelievable a few years back.

Needham Market - superbly led by manager Danny Laws - are going to beat Kirkham and Wesham on aggregate in the semi-final of the FA Vase and win a place at Wembley.

Not just any old stadium, but Wembley Stadium - a name that conjures up pictures of all the top players football has produced, World Cup finals, FA Cup finals. You name it, Wembley has seen it.

Household names who successfully ply their trade in the higher echelons of the game miss a heart beat at the thought of playing at Wembley.

And now 'little' Needham Market have got their chance. And I am sure they will complete their remarkable fairytale tomorrow.

And it will be a fitting reward for Laws, and club stalwarts like Graham Emmerson, Nick Francis as well as all the other officials - Mick Coombes, Richard Easlea, Melvin Bloomfield, Barry Nunn to name a few - who have played their part.

But in particular to Derrick Bloomfield, now approaching his ninth decade and a driving force at the club for over 60 years.

So why am I so touched by Needham's success?

Well correct me if I am wrong but I am sure I still hold the club's goalscoring record - notching close to 50 goals in one first team campaign.

They were great times - and Derrick was running the club then!

From competing for the Metaltec SIL Senior Division title to playing at Wembley Stadium is a massive leap.

I wish them well.
