Needham Market face their biggest game in the club's history tomorrow afternoon when they play Lancashire side Kirkham & Wesham in the semi-final of the FA Vase.

With just 90 minutes separating them from a dream cup final appearance at Wembley, STUART WATSON spoke to a number of the club's players and backroom staff ahead of their historic day.

NEEDHAM Market boss Danny Laws has called upon Suffolk's residents to be the proverbial twelfth man for his side tomorrow.

Trailing 3-2 to Kirkham & Wesham following the first leg of their FA Vase semi-final in Lancashire, Laws is hoping for in excess of 1,000 fans at Bloomfields tomorrow.

With the club having reached the latter stages of a number of cup competitions this season the game count has now reached a staggering 55 matches for Needham, with the final total likely to be over 70.

And, with all of the vast squad either working or studying full-time, the gruelling run of two games a week has seemingly been taking its toll recently with the previously dominant team

losing their last four matches and conceding 12 goals in the process.

However Laws, who was thankful that Easter Monday's fixture was postponed due to the weather, hopes that his young side can be carried through their final matches on a mixture of pure adrenaline and the support of their fans.

He said: “It's difficult to put into words just how massive this game will be for us. They (Kirkham & Wesham) have made their home advantage count and now so do we.

“I really want the public to come out in force and support us and give everything for the lads. We were outnumbered one to every ten fans up in Lancashire and that played a big, big factor in them coming back into the match.

“I called on the fans in the fifth round when we took St Ives back here for a replay and, with a record crowd, we responded and won 4-0.

“All I will say to anyone that is thinking of coming is that we have got an honest team of local boys that give absolutely everything on the pitch.

“We are a real family club and I don't know anyone who hasn't returned after coming. I guarantee that you will receive good value for money at just £6.

“We've played just two games at home in this competition so far and scored four goals in both games. We know we have got to get amongst the goals again and I will be looking for a few heroes again.”

Laws has only one real injury doubt ahead of tomorrow in defender Scott Wark after midfield goal machine Craig Parker came through the first leg unscathed.

Looking at the game, Laws said: “We will have to take a few risks in throwing people forward but I think we can afford to be slightly patient.

“I've got a plan B and plan C up my sleeve but I'm not going to reveal all my cards just yet.”
