THE HUNT for an Ipswich rapist who posed as a Good Samaritan before brutally attacking his victim has received a massive boost with the offer of a bounty for his capture.
THE HUNT for an Ipswich rapist who posed as a Good Samaritan before brutally attacking his victim received a massive boost today with the offer of a bounty for his capture.
Detectives searching for the man who set upon an Essex teenager after gaining her trust are starting out house-to-house inquiries today along the route the pair took before the attack. Officers are also continuing to trawl through CCTV footage taken around the time of the rape.
Today, the Evening Star is offering of a £1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the rapist.
Detective Superintendent Roy Lambert, leading the hunt said: "We welcome this positive initiative taken by the Evening Star and hopefully it will encourage more people to contact the rape incident room with information."
Around 20 officers are working from an incident room at Suffolk police's Martlesham headquarters to find the attacker.
The 19-year-old victim, who comes from the Colchester area, left Kartouche nightclub in Prince's Street at around 12.30am on Saturday after having a disagreement with her friends. She walked to a nearby railway station and sat down on a bench where the man approached her.
He then lured her up Birkfield Drive and on to a footpath off Stone Lodge Lane under the pretext he was helping her find the Copdock interchange where her boyfriend was collecting her.
It was in the lane, near Pauls Sports and Social Club, that he raped her.
"The shocking thing about this crime is the way the rapist coldly wormed his way in to the confidence of the victim, who was vulnerable and upset after having a disagreement with her friends, before luring her to an isolated spot and launching his attack," said Det Supt Lambert."
He said passers-by might have mistaken the pair for a couple as they walked together. She was wearing a white top, short white skirt and knee-length black boots.
The rapist is white, in his early 20s, about 5ft 8ins to 5ft 9ins tall, of plump build with short spiky brown hair. He was wearing a blue shirt, dark trousers and was clean-shaven.
Anyone with information or who was in the area of the railway station should telephone 01473 613999 or Crimestoppers on freephone 0800 555 111.
