DETECTIVES are issuing a warning to people not to buy fireworks from unauthorised sources, following a theft from a warehouse in Ipswich.
A compound in Greenwich Close, Ipswich, was entered and a steel container was broken into between noon on Saturday and 6am Sunday.
More than £40,000 worth of fireworks supplied by Menshun Co Ltd and Cosmic Group, including rockets and big wheels, were taken.
Detective Constable Paul Royal of Ipswich Police said: "We would urge anyone to let us know if they are offered fireworks from an unauthorised source.
"Fireworks can cause serious and sometimes fatal injuries.
"We would like to stress to the public the importance of only buying fireworks from a retail outlet that has had the authorisation from the local authority to sell them."
Anyone with information regarding this theft is asked to call Dc Royal at Ipswich CID on 01473 383135, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
