SEVENTY years ago in July 1939 the Ipswich Sea Cadet Corps was formed.
A few weeks later in September the country was at war with Germany.
The first 60 boys who signed up at Smart Street School, Ipswich, must have known the dark political situation and that soon they would be old enough to join the armed forces.
The Ipswich unit saw 80 of their members join the Royal Navy during the five years of war. The 70th anniversary celebration will be held at the Town Hall, Ipswich, on Friday, July 10.
If you were a member any time over the 70 years and would like to attend, contact the organisation's president David Routh on 01473 255680.
