But clowning around was clearly the aim of the game as the girls, who are aged between 10 and 15 years, tried their hand at balloon modelling and other circus antics with the help of the Suffolk Guide association's very own circus equipment.

Guide leader Zoe Wickham joked that she was simply relieved that the girls bore through without serious injury as she admitted that the girls perhaps may not score particularly highly on technical merit on some of the tasks but deserved ten out of ten for effort.

"Some of the girls have managed to walk across the room on stilts after practising for the last week and we have all managed to master 'fun wheels (a sort of free-wheeling set of pedals).

"We have had a really good week – and we didn't break any bones!"

Fellow Guider Gail Walker renewed her vows as an adult leader at the meeting at Stowupland High School.
