POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a crash on the A12 which left a motorcyclist seriously injured in hospital.

A 30-year-old male rider was taken to Ipswich Hospital yesterday after coming off his Triumph motorbike at Capel St Mary.

The incident happened at around 10.40am, blocking the northbound carriageway of the road for two hours.

A passing nurse was the first on the scene and was soon followed by paramedics who took the injured biker to Ipswich Hospital.

It is believed the motorbike wasn't in collision with another vehicle but police would still like to hear from anyone travelling in the same area when the incident happened, in particular the driver of a white box van or saloon car driving in the same northbound direction as the motorbike at the time.

Calls should be made to PC Paul Lynch at the roads policing unit on 01473 613500.
