PART of the A12 is expected to be shut over night after a lorry carrying a digger crashed into a bridge and blocked the carriageway.
The accident happened at Brightwell at around 6.45am today and the Nacton-bound carriageway has not yet reopened.
The delay is largely due to the bridge, which crosses the A12, needing a structural survey before it can be deemed safe.
There are concerns there may be loose debris which could fall onto the road below.
Earlier, a crane had to be arranged to pick up the digger from the road and part of the tarmac had to be relaid.
The accident happened between Foxhall and Seven Hills roundabouts and diversions were put in place.
The driver of the lorry was not taken to hospital.
