A volunteer doctor from the Suffolk Accident Rescue Service (SARS) charity was mobilised to the collision between Barrow and Risby at around 1.10pm.

The crash was between a lorry and a JCB grain loader with the loader overturning and ejecting its driver onto the central reservation, a SARS spokesman said. A lane of each carriageway was closed but they reopened at around 4.55pm.

The SARS doctor treated the driver of the grain loader who was a male patient in his fifties.

The spokesman said: “He was subsequently taken by land ambulance to the West Suffolk Hospital for further checks. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. A crew from the East of England Ambulance Service also attended the incident.”

Repair work to the central reservation will close a lane of each carriageway overnight.
