MOTORING group the AA has today followed rivals RAC by announcing record-breaking call-outs.

The AA had its busiest ever day yesterday after attending 25,000 breakdowns - around 1,100 every hour.

Today it expects to answer 16,000 calls, compared to 9,000 for a normal Tuesday.

The organisation is continuing to deploy extra patrols and has all its specially-equipped Land Rovers working in the snow-affected areas. Priority is being given to drivers in the most vulnerable situations.

Drivers are being advised to keep their speed down and leave at least a three-second gap between them and the car in front.

Before departing, drivers should check local traffic and weather reports for their planned route and heed any police advice about whether or not to travel.
