MOTORISTS faced major delays on the M25 today following the discovery of an abandoned car near the M11 turn-off.
The vehicle was found about 7am and the arterial road was closed in both directions at 8.40am while army bomb disposal experts examined the vehicle.
The closure was in place between the M11 turn-off and the Brentwood turn-off.
After investigation the vehicle was not thought to be suspicious and police reopened the road at 10.30am.
A spokeswoman for Essex police said investigations were continuing into why the vehicle had been abandoned and officers would look into whether there was any malicious intent behind the incident.
She said the closure had caused delays but that the safety of the public was paramount.
Army bomb disposal experts were seen travelling along the A14 between Stowmarket and Ipswich about 10.40am today but it is not known if this was in connection with the same incident.
