A HOLIDAY with friends turned to tragedy when a 22-year-old woman from Suffolk fell to her death from her apartment block balcony, an inquest has been told.

Monique Williams, who was on holiday in the resort of Magaluf in Majorca with her sister Lisa and four friends is thought to have slipped while trying to climb from her balcony to her friends' balcony next door.

Greater Suffolk Coroner Dr Peter Dean recorded a verdict of accidental death on Miss Williams, of Yarmouth Place, Haverhill.

He said a police investigation into the death found Miss Williams had suffered multiple injuries in the fall.

However, he said the young woman was killed by the severe injuries to her head caused by the fall. He said she also suffered shock due to the amount of blood she lost.

The inquest yesterday in Bury St Edmunds heard friends and other holidaymakers rushed to help Miss Williams but they could find no signs of life.

Dr Dean, who recorded a verdict of accidental death, said: "This was a very, very tragic accident which led to head injuries and subsequent death from those head injuries."

After the tragedy in May, Miss Williams' sister said she and Monique had been on holiday with friends from Ipswich and Oxford.

They returned to their rooms at the Guadeloupe Hotel to change at 11pm and Monique tried to climb across to her friends' balcony but it had been raining and she slipped and fell. She was certified dead at the scene.
