ADOPTION services in Suffolk have been praised by inspectors for helping adopted children and involving birth parents in the adoption process.

A report by Ofsted, the national inspectors of services for children and families, rated Suffolk County Council's adoption service good overall with several outstanding assessments.

The inspection report said: “Adoption support is an outstanding feature of the service. The agency as a whole is extremely well-managed.”

Regarding improvements since the last inspection, the report stated: “There has been significant investment in the service, with additional social worker posts being provided.”

The report went on to praise the appointment of a specialist recruitment officer to find more potential adopters.

Patricia O'Brien, head of children, schools and young people's services at the council, said: “I hope this inspection report will give everyone in Suffolk the confidence and encouragement to know that people considering adopting a child here will get the very best service and support.

“I am extremely pleased with the decisions that I and fellow councillors have made to invest in this service. It is absolutely right that children, who benefit enormously from being adopted, have every chance to do so, and to receive all the pre and post-adoption support.”
