BLUES footballer Alun Armstrong joined his sons in the Learning Zone to encourage more fathers to show an interest in education.

The Dads and Sons initiative, part of Ipswich Town's developments in adult learning, will see families joining together for computer sessions at Portman Road before matches.

The first session will take place in the IT Learning Zone before the game against Norwich City tomorrow.

The Town forward tried out the new computer suite with his three boys Jake, Matthew and Luke. He was joined by coach Steve Cooper and his sons George, Harvey and Teddy.

Matthew Brakenbury, from the club's community department, said the stadium was a "catalyst" for learning, helping fathers and sons improve their IT skills through football.

He referred to research showing boys aged between 11 and 14 were under-achieving at school compared to girls. With more practical help, many more fathers might be more inclined to take an interest in their sons' education, helping to lift the grades.

"It will be a perfect opportunity for fathers and sons to share time together in producing a variety of work in the exciting and hi-tech venue of the IT Learning Zone," said Mr Brakenbury.

Tasks will include internet challenges and fantasy leagues.
