GET ready for a show of colour in the east of the county as Martlesham and Woodbridge gear up for a floral extravaganza.

Both towns are launching into battle to claim the much-coveted Anglia in Bloom award and the race is on to turn the streets into a perfume filled parade of colour.

The daffodils are already blooming but the hanging baskets are now at the ready and needing sponsorship to help them look perfect.

The Woodbridge in Bloom committee is encouraging the community to get involved in sponsoring the baskets.

Anthony Hubbard, committee chairman said that the hanging baskets will be pleasant for both residents and visitors and will hopefully encourage them to browse and spend more money.

Martlesham Heath is having hanging baskets in The Square, but the committee is also encouraging residents to get involved and look after their gardens, ready to impress the judges during their tour of the town.

Lawrence Burrows, chairman of the Martlesham in Bloom committee said that some schools and businesses in the area were also involved.

He said: "It helps give a bit of pride in the community.

"We want to encourage people to do things to improve it."
