POLICE are trying to trace a walker who struck an archer in the face after trying to give him safety advice.

The incident happened near the Suffolk Showground on Bucklesham Road, on the edge of Ipswich, after a man practising target archery in a private field became concerned about a man and young girl walking dogs.

The pair were walking with two black labrador crosses in an area where they may have been in danger.

As the couple walked off, the archer followed them in his car, stopping to advise them that they could have been at risk from the archery.

A police spokeswoman said the walker reached in through the open window and caught the archer on the face, causing minor scratch wounds.

The walker is described as white, in his mid to late 30s, 5ft 8in tall, with dark hair, and wearing an olive green jacket.

The young girl he was with at the time of the incident, at about 7pm on May 4, was aged 12 to 14, also with dark hair.

Anyone with information should contact police on 01473 383300.
