St John Ambulance is appealing for more adult volunteers and cadets so they can continue to support activities with young people.

St John Ambulance is hoping they will be able to recruit youth leaders and cadets in Ipswich.

Youth leaders play an essential role within the charity and the only requirement they need is to be over the age of 18.

This role works closely with cadets by teaching them life saving skills and supporting them as they work towards receiving the highest accolade that can be achieved the Grand Prior Award.

Members of the public can become a cadet for St John Ambulance as soon as they have had their 10th birthday.

A spokesman for the charity said: “No prior first aid or volunteering experience is required for any of these roles as all necessary training will be given at a weekly meeting.

“Applicants for youth leader roles must be aged 18 or over and will be required to pass an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

“They will also be taught first aid so, in time, they can pass on these skills to the young volunteers and, if they wish, go on duty delivering first aid in the community and at events.”

If you are interested in volunteering for either of these roles, you can attend an open evening on February 26.

It will be held at the unit’s headquarters at Samuel Court in Ipswich between 6.45pm and 8pm.

It will give you the chance to find out more and speak to existing adult volunteers and cadets.

Alternatively you can email Chris Chapman the charity’s area manager.

You can find out more about opportunities for volunteering with young people at St John Ambulance, including details of how to apply for a role here.
