POLICE are today calling for football fans to be on their best behaviour at Saturday's big game between local rivals Ipswich Town and Colchester United.

The game gets underway at 3pm and fans are being warned to expect some delays near the ground as police work to ensure the safety of supporters.

More than 150 officers from Suffolk police and British Transport Police will be taking part in the operation.

Superintendent Chris Mayhew, match commander, said: “This will be an exciting game for Ipswich and Colchester fans and a welcome addition to our local fixtures.

“We will continue our use of firm but fair policing to ensure the safety of those attending the game and those members of the public wishing to go about their normal business.”

Members of the public are being asked to prepare for crowd and traffic congestion on the day and to avoid the area if not attending the game.
