Appeal for robbery witnesses goes on

POLICE hunting vicious robbers who targeted Hacheston post office have been out on the streets of the village but say the public response has been "flat".

Their street investigations mark exactly one week since two men robbed the post office and brutally assaulted the postmaster.

Officers spoke to around 35 people between 6 and 9am near the post office and on the B1116 yesterday to try and trace anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the robbery and help jog memories of possible witnesses.

But detectives have described the response as "flat" and are renewing appeals for anyone using the route last Friday morning to get in touch – even if they think they don't have any information that can help.

DC Chris Hutson said: "Because it's half-term week we believe we have only spoken to about half the amount of people who would usually use this route and we are particularly asking mums and dads who may use the road through Hacheston as a school run to call us.

"The most important time is 8.30 to 8.50am and we are particularly keen to hear from you if you saw any vehicles parked in the layby outside the post office around then.

"It could be that you drove past without noticing anything suspicious but we still would like to talk to you – you may have information which is of importance without realising it," DC Hutson added.

Postmaster Graham Westley was threatened with a knife as one of the robbers plunged a plastic bag over his head.

He then had his hands and mouth taped up and was left tied to bars covering the toilet window.

An undisclosed sum of money was stolen.

Police are looking for a 5ft 11in tall white man with dark cropped hair. He was wearing a blue fleece, blue tracksuit bottoms and trainers.

The second man was a similar height and also wore dark clothing.
