A WOMAN airlifted to hospital after a two vehicle crash on the A12 near Saxmundham is in a stable but critical condition in the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital.

A WOMAN airlifted to hospital after a two vehicle crash on the A12 near Saxmundham is in a stable but critical condition in the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital.

The unnamed female, believed to be in her 30s was in a red P-reg Peugeot 405 estate car when it was involved in a collision with a green T-reg Ford Focus at 11.48am Saturday.

She was trapped in the vehicle for almost an hour and paramedics and a Suffolk Accident Rescue Service doctor stabilised her condition before she was flown to the Norfolk and Norwich by air ambulance.

A male, also believed to be in his 30s, travelling in the Ford was treated for his injuries by ambulance crew. His condition was not thought to be life-threatening.

The crash caused long tail-backs of holiday traffic and Suffolk police are appealing to any witnesses to the incident to contact Pc Thorpe on 01473 613500.
