VEGETARIANS beware. Two fat ladies are appealing for somebody to save their bacon.

VEGETARIANS beware. Two fat ladies are appealing for somebody to save their bacon.

These hefty women weigh in at 100-150kg each but they are neither two-legged nor television stars – they are a pair of fully-grown fat pigs.

And unless six-year-old sisters 'Pork Pie' and 'Pork Chop' get a new home they could find themselves living up to their names – literally.

The pot-bellied pigs were previously owned by Otley College but had to move home as a safety precaution after the swine fever and foot-and-mouth epidemics.

Georgina Owen, physical resources manager from the college is currently looking after the pigs at her home in Norton, near Bury St Edmunds but is unable to keep them any longer.

She said: "If they are not found a home we will have no other option than to have them put down and that would be a great shame."

The pair were donated to the college by a couple from Essex when they moved house.

Georgina said: "They are easy to look after and cheaper than a dog. They eat uncooked vegetables and pig food, which is easy and cheap to buy. They would need shelter of either an outhouse or arc with straw in which they would build a nest. In summer they like to sunbathe and would need somewhere to wallow."

The sisters need to be kept together but Georgina advises that if potential owners have small children, they should be introduced gradually.

Georgina added that she would be willing to help move the pigs to their new home and speak to the new owners to offer any advice needed.

Anyone who thins they may be able to give 'Pork Pie' and 'Pork Chop' a loving home should ring Georgina Owen on 01473 785543.
