PUPILS in Suffolk were so keen to meet their favourite author they wrote to her asking her to visit them.

The kids at Somersham Primary School were jealous because three of their friends met Emily Gravett in London last year.

The Year 5 and 6 pupils had been invited to interview her on Radio 4 after her agent was impressed by comments they had left on a website about her books.

But their friends liked her so much as well, they asked her to come to their school and she was met with rapturous applause when she obliged and opened their new library just before the half term break.

Headteacher Lynette Allison said: “When the three pupils came back from London all the children said they wanted to meet her and took it upon themselves to write to her.

“When we were in London, I think she took a shine to us. All the children had been preparing for the visit by making cakes and posters.

“She talked to the children about how she came up with ideas for her books and signed autographs.”

Ms Gravett's Little Mouse's Big Book of Fears and Monkey and Me were shortlisted last year for the Kate Greenaway Medal.
