A popular Ipswich park event scheduled for tomorrow has been cancelled due to fears over high winds that Storm Brian is forecast to bring to Suffolk.

Apple Day in Holywells Park will not go ahead after growing concerns about the possible impact of the storm.

Hundreds of people were expected to attend the event, organised by the Friends of Holywells Park, with apple bobbing, pumpkin carving, and crafts among the attractions.

A spokesman for Ipswich Borough Council said: “We have been monitoring the weather forecasts and regretfully have to cancel it as we simply cannot risk people’s safety in these conditions.

“This is a popular event organised by the Friends of Holywells Park but having hundreds of people in the park’s orchard in high winds leaves us with no choice and we want to give local people and organisers as much notice as possible.”

The council apologised for the inconvenience but stressed that people’s safety is of paramount importance.
