Following on with our 'caught out' section of classic club photos, this time we take a look back to one of Ipswich's most popular clubs in the 80s and 90s, Libertys.
Once one of the most recognisable places in Ipswich as the place to be on a Friday and Saturday night, Libertys saw thousands of clubbers pass through its doors across the late 80s and early 90s.
Positioned on Tacket Street, the club was a stone’s throw away from the centre of town which made it the prime location for people travelling from outside of Ipswich, alongside the locals that packed the dancefloors and bars on a weekly basis.
Competing with Hollywood’s at the time, Libertys hosted regular themed nights and had several guest appearances across its lifetime.
We’ve been through the archives and pulled out a few club photos which were taken in August 1997.
Be sure to email our picture desk if you recognise any familiar faces and let us know your memories from Libertys.
The venue later went on to become the popular Fire & Ice club, before closing down in late 2010. What are your thoughts on the nightlife in Ipswich at the moment? Does Unit 17, Vodka Revolutions and Sin keep you entertained on a Friday and Saturday, or do you wish there was somewhere new? Send your replies to our picture desk.
