With Pancake Day now just around the corner, we look back to one of the countless races that have been held to mark the occasion.
In 1985 Carr Street was closed to traffic to stage the Eastern Gas Pancake Race.
It was an affair that brought out fierce competition among companies in the town, including Woolworths, Debenhams, British Home Stores and the Wolsey Theatre Group.
Teams were tasked with flipping pancakes in frying pans as they dashed to the finish line.
The Mayor of Ipswich at the time, Eric Grant, also attended and joined the many people who attended to cheer on the participants.
Pancake Day falls on Tuesday, February 13 this year.
