CALLING all wannabe carnival queens!

The time has come to choose the girl to represent Stowmarket as this year's carnival queen and it could be you.

Organisers of the town's spectacular event are getting ready to select the new queen, her attendant and three princesses at a special selection night on February 18.

As well as leading the carnival in July, the new queen will take part in many other carnivals and big events across the region throughout the summer.

Kay Ewan, one of the carnival organisers, said: "Previous winners have always had a brilliant time and are always very well looked after.

"Last year, we had a very successful year and won many prizes at the various carnivals across the country.

"We hope we receive a good turn at the selection night, and all winners must be prepared to represent Stowmarket at other carnival events throughout the summer."

The candidates do not have to live in Stowmarket to be considered for this regal role.

"There is no restriction, we just ask that each candidate regards Stowmarket as their town," said Mrs Ewan.

The new queen will receive a cheque for £100 and the new attendant a cheque for £50.

The minimum age for the queen is 16 while princesses should be aged between seven and nine.

Anyone wishing to be considered for any of the positions should attend the selection night at The Regal Theatre, Stowmarket, on February 18 at 7.30pm.
