Armed police conducted an operation in Ipswich this afternoon and two men have been arrested.

The operation took place in the Nacton Road area of town around 1.30pm following information that officers received.

The two men, both in their 20s, have been taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

Suffolk police moved to reassure residents that there is no wider threat to the community.

A spokesman for the force said: “Officers conducted an operation in the Nacton Road area of Ipswich earlier today at about 1.30pm following information that had police received.

“Two men, both aged in their 20s, have been arrested and taken to Bury St Edmunds Police investigation Centre for questioning.

“The presence of armed police may have caused some concern in the vicinity, but we can reassure residents there is no wider threat to the local community.”
