ARMED with an iron bar, a robber struck at an Ipswich town centre shop in broad daylight today.

The robbery is reported to have taken place in the town's prime shopping area, as people flocked in and out of shops nearby.

The offender walked into the office area of the Superdrug store in Westgate Street, at about 10.30am today .

He demanded money from the shop assistant, whilst threatening him what appeared to be an iron bar.

The shop assistant went to the safe, and handed over an undisclosed quantity of cash from within.

As soon as he had the cash in his hands, the offender escaped on foot. Staff did not see which direction he headed in.

The shop assistant involved in the incident, was not injured.

Police are hunting for a black man, about 5ft 8ins tall and of stocky build. He is aged in his late 20s or early 30s, and wore dark clothing.

A police spokeswoman said: "At around 10.30am this morning, an offender entered the office area of Superdrug in Westgate Street, Ipswich, and demanded money from the shop assistant whilst threatening him what appeared to be an iron bar."
