ARSONISTS turned an Ipswich man's car in to a fireball early today leaving it a burnt out wreck.

Rupert Davis white Volvo was left totally gutted with melted glass and a burnt out interior.

It had been moved right outside his home in Waterford Road, Ipswich and was dangerously close to the house when fire broke out.

Mr Davis's father, Ted Davis was woken up just after 5am by a noise.

"Something woke me up and I went to look out of the window. I could not believe what I was seeing. At first I thought next door was on fire because there was so much smoke I could not see the car.

"This is terrible for my son as he really looked after this car. I just hope these people see the damage they have done. We could have been doing anything today like taking someone to hospital. These people just do not think and they have left me fuming," he said.

"I do not know how they could have set it alight so violently," he added.

Mr Davis, 27, who decided against filling his car with petrol at the last minute, said he was devastated by the fire.

"I am more than gutted. I just do not understand how people get pleasure from this type of thing."

A spokeswoman for Ipswich police confirmed the fire was being treated as arson.

Anyone with information about the blaze should telephone 01473 613500 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
