ASDA employees in Suffolk are set to benefit from a £19million bonus payout, the company announced today.

Workers at ASDA supermarkets in Goddard Road, Ipswich, and Wilkes Way, Stowmarket, are among 113,000 of the company's employees who are set to receive performance-related bonuses.

The company has pledged £4million more than it offered to employees in performance-related bonuses in 2004 and the payout will cover an extra 11,000 checkout workers.

It says the average amount received will be £264 per employee but some employees will take home up to £360.

Caroline Massingham, ASDA's Retail People Director said: "It's the hard work and enthusiasm of our colleagues that has made the business a success this year.

"It's great to be able to share the rewards with them."

ASDA, which is Britain's second biggest supermarket chain, operates 274 stores across Britain and is part of US chain Wal-Mart.

The biggest bonuses will be paid at those stores which hit the 'suberbonus' threshold by meeting all of the companies targets.

ASDA's annual performance-related bonus scheme was introduced in 2000 after it became part of Wal-Mart.

In those five years bonuses paid to employees have totalled almost £70m.

Employees qualify for the ASDA bonus scheme after six months service and the amount they receive is calculated against store targets and the amount of leave they take.
