Aston Villa are poised to sign Wigan’s highly rated winger Charles N’Zogbia after having a third bid accepted.

The offer, thought to be in the region of 9.5 million has finally prompted Wigan to sell their star performer.

Villa manager Alex McLeish hopes the deal will be wrapped up by the end of the week with N’Zogbia yet to discuss personal terms and complete a medical.

The French international was deemed an integral part of Wigan’s campaign last season as they narrowly avoided relegation.

Villa said in a statement: “The club are pleased to confirm that we have agreed a fee with Wigan for Charles N’Zogbia.”

“We will now discuss personal terms with the player and arrange a medical.”

The move is good news for Villa fans who have witnessed the departures of wingers Ashley Young and Stewart Downing, who moved to Manchester United and Liverpool respectively.

N’Zogbia will be reunited with former Newcastle United team-mate Shay Given, who last week became McLeish’s first signing of the summer in a 3.5m move from Manchester City.
