Awards for hero firefighters

HERO firefighters have been rewarded for their dedication to duty at a special ceremony in Ipswich.

Long Service and Good Conduct Medals were awarded to seven personnel at the annual Suffolk Fire Service Medal Ceremony held at Colchester Road Fire Station.

Long Service and Good Conduct Medals were awarded to seven personnel at the annual Suffolk Fire Service Medal Ceremony held at Colchester Road Fire Station.

One of the winners was Paul Taylor, station officer at Princes Street in Ipswich.

He said: "I have been at Princes Street for about 12 months and I was at Bury St Edmunds before that. I have a lot of good memories from down the years, especially some of the people I have met over that time."

The other long service medal winners were Brian Hawes, Vincent Jell, Steven Palmer, Barry Richards, Trevor Rolfe and Stephen Siddle.

Janet Munro was also rewarded for her 20 years service as a fire control operator.

Other awards being presented included the Chief Fire Officer's Commendation – presented to those who demonstrate courageous and exemplary conduct outside the course of normal duties.

The award was presented to Sub officer John Last from Leiston and Leading Firefighter Steven Howe of Felixstowe Dock Fire Brigade.
