TWO security guards are in shock today after they were threatened by axe-wielding robbers in the early hours of this morning.
The pair were at the branch of the Nationwide Building Society in Brightlingsea High Street re-stocking a cash machine at about 2am when two armed men burst in and threatened them.
The robbers, who wore scarves across their faces, escaped with a five-figure sum of money in a silver Renault Laguna, being driven by a third member of the gang.
Neither of the guards were injured during the raid and detectives are keen to speak to witnesses.
Anyone who saw the robbers or the silver getaway car is urged to contact detectives at Clacton Police Station on 0300 3334444.
