POLICE have today charged a man with the murder of a four-week-old baby in Ipswich.

Duncan Mills, 31, of London Road, Ipswich, has been charged with the murder of the baby from Lanercost Way.

A Suffolk police spokesman said today: “Detectives investigating the death of a four-week-old baby boy have this evening charged a man with his murder.

“Duncan Mills, age 31, of London Road, Ipswich, has been charged with murder.

“He has also been charged with assault causing grievous bodily harm.

“He will appear before Ipswich magistrates tomorrow morning.”

The spokesman said the baby's mother, 22-year-old Samantha Askew from Lanercost Way, who was also arrested in connection with the incident, had been released without charge.

Mills was arrested at his flat in London Road on Saturday after paramedics were called to Lanercost Way following a report of a baby needing treatment.

The baby, believed to be called Luigi, was taken to Ipswich Hospital but later died.

Miss Askew was also hospitalised and received treatment for non life threatening injuries.
