STRIKE up the band! The Ipswich Hospital Band is set to celebrate its 25th anniversary with a celebration concert.

It will be a very special event at the Spa Pavilion in Felixstowe, at 7.30pm on Saturday, October 20 – marking a unique musical success story.

BBC Radio Suffolk's Mark Murphy will be the compere for the evening, while the station's presenter Lesley Dolphin and her cheery pal Fred are also set to join in the fun.

The band began in a small way back in 1976, with performances of carols in local hospitals – and quickly grew.

It now has more than 50 members, many of whom work within the NHS, and has raised thousands of pounds for health-related charities.

Tickets for the 25th anniversary celebration concert are priced at £6 (concessions £5), and are available from the Spa box office, telephone 01394 282126, Music World in Queen Street Ipswich, telephone 01473 253666, or the band treasurer, 01473 438730.
