BANK holiday weather may have been in the doldrums but it did little to dampen the spirits at fayres, fetes and events.

Even the presence of former Anglia Television weathergirl Becky Jago could not lift the clouds over Framlingham Gala and despite the cool climate at Mendlesham Street Fayre the festivities raised a super £3,000 for community council funds.

Ms Jago, now presenter of the BBC's Newsround children's programme, did manage to bring out the sun later in the afternoon.

At Mendlesham, the Street Fayre had a variety of events to attract people of all ages.

Lorraine Hales, the May Princess, and her attendants Sarah Alying-Bate and Chelsea Triscott, lead a procession through the village at noon to the Old Market Street to start the fun afternoon.

Community council chairman, Carolyn Triscott, said the fayre had proved a success, although the number of visitors was lower than last year when it benefited from other activities being cancelled due to the foot-and-mouth outbreak.
