TWO teenagers have appeared before magistrates, charged with endangering safety on a railway following a train crash on a level crossing at Baylham.

Frank Grinham, of Onslow Gardens, Sanderstead, Surrey, was also accused of obstructing the railway after an accident where an Ipswich-bound Anglia Railways train was in collision with a Ford Transit van.

The 18-year-old appeared from custody for the short hearing at South East Suffolk Magistrates' Court.

The court clerk read out six charges for Grinham relating to last month's crash, which left the train driver in shock. These included dangerous driving on the B1113 at Baylham, failure to report an accident, driving whilst disqualified and fraudulent use of a tax disk.

Appearing with him was a 17-year-old, from Croydon, Surrey, who cannot be named for legal reasons.

The teenager faces two charges: endangering safety on a railway and obstruction of a railway line.

He was granted unconditional bail to return to South East Suffolk Magistrates' Court in Ipswich on October 1, along with Grinham who is expected to appear via video link.

No pleas were entered at this stage.

The crash on August 29 saw Norwich to Ipswich trains delayed, and buses replaced trains temporarily.
