A pair of teenagers were given safety advice after rescuers were called to an inflatable canoe in trouble off Felixstowe.

Felixstowe Coastguard Rescue Team was called out, alongside RNLI Harwich Lifeboat, at about 6pm on Sunday, to reports of two teenagers on board an inflatable canoe in difficulty off Felixstowe pier.

As the team arrived, the two teens were located safe and well on the beach.

The team talked to the pair, advising of the safety implications of using an inflatable on the coast, and the importance of using life jackets and buoyancy aids.

The team later posted a reminder to other beach users, saying: “Inflatables are great for the pool but not always suitable for the coast. Tying an inflatable to something secure on shore will stop the wind and tide taking you too far out.”

On Saturday evening, six teens on a canoe required rescuing after getting into difficulty off Mersea Island.
