CUSTOMERS at Asda Superstore in Ipswich got the chance to sleep in Robbie Williams's bed this weekend … all in the name of charity.

Robbie himself was not part of the deal but fans turned up anyway to lend their support to the event which raised money for the Tickled Pink breast cancer campaign.

Fans and customers paid £1 yesterday for the thrill of lying on the star's 8ft bed which now belongs to Lorraine Palmer. Mrs Palmer won the bed in a competition and donated it to the store to help raise money for the charity.

"It has created a lot of interest and attention and my bucket is very full. People are donating very generously and so I am coming back tomorrow with the bed to do it all over again," said Mrs Palmer.

Shirley Cook works at the store on Bury Road and has helped organise the event.

"I know Lorraine and I heard about the bed and thought it would make a great fund-raising event for Tickled Pink. Some people's reaction to it has been very funny, one old lady said she would have preferred it if it had belonged to Bing Crosby and another thought Asda had started selling beds."

Two people who knew exactly what was going on were Robbie fans Laura Dixon,11, and Emma Cook, 11.

"We are Robbie fans and think this is a great way to raise money and do something unusual and I hope they raise loads of money," said Laura.

Once the event is over Mrs Palmer, 21, is planning to sell the bed on an auction site over the internet.

She said: "When I sell it one of the first things I am going to do is buy some tickets so that I can go and see him in person."

Other events taking place at the store for the Tickled Pink charity include events co-ordinator Terri Adams dressed head to toe in pink and getting in to bath of pink milkshake.

The fund raising is continuing for two weeks.
