Part of a flood-prone Suffolk road will be closed to traffic during six weeks of drainage improvements.

Suffolk County Council’s highways team aims to start the work in Bell Lane, Kesgrave, on Monday, when diversions and parking restrictions will be introduced.

The work will see drainage improvements between the junction with Edmonton Close to outside 50 Bell Lane, an area that has been regularly flooded during heavy rain.

It follows further repair works carried out at the junction between Bell Lane and Main Road earlier this year, costing £100,000.

Funding for drainage work was secured last year, with work having been carried out in Edmonton Close in Kesgrave and The Street in Rushmere St Andrew.

Highways teams will also improve footpaths and kerbing as part of their work.

Bell Lane will be closed to traffic while the work is carried out, access to properties and businesses will be controlled by staff on site, and on street parking will be restricted to allow repairs to take place. Drivers may be asked to move their vehicles.

“These temporary traffic management measures are required to allow the works to be carried out safely and in accordance with current health and safety guidelines,” a highways spokesman said.

“Access for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

“Inconvenience and disruption will be kept to a minimum during these works.”

During the work, traffic will be diverted via: Edmonton Close, St Lawrence Way, Mackenzie Drive and Bell Lane, and vice versa.

The start date for the work may change depending on issues with the weather.
