The BHS in Ipswich’s Butter Market is set to close its doors for the last time on Wednesday as the national chain is wound up by administrators.
The Ipswich branch was one of the chain’s flagship stores and has been at its present site since the late 1990s after moving from Tavern Street.
Notices announcing the closing date appeared at the end of last week. The store is one of the largest in the town centre, but its modern construction – and the fact it would be possible to split into separate units – could make it attractive to other tenants looking to come to town.
Its landlords and managers from Ipswich Central are now expected to step up the search for a new name or names to move into the site, which is well placed with an entrance opposite the Buttermarket Centre which is due to reopen as a leisure-based centre with cinema and family restaurants later in the year.
