A MOTHER-of-seven proved the best things come to those who wait after she scooped a massive windfall of more than £105,000 playing bingo at a Suffolk club.

The 48-year-old housewife pocketed the cash at the Gala Bingo Club in Ipswich on Wednesday night after a sudden bout of superstition.

"I was following two girls and suddenly thought that if I passed them it would alter the tickets I would buy, so I hung back," she said. "Then, while queuing, another ticket booth was opened but something was telling me to say where I was. I'm so glad I did."

The lucky winner, who lives in a village near Ipswich but did not wish to be named, said she had been playing bingo for a number of years and visited the Gala once a week. Her success is the fourth time a player at Ipswich has won the National Game Bingo in less than six months.

On completing a full house in 37 numbers – the fewest anywhere nationwide – the woman won the national prize of £100,000 plus a further regional prize of £5,183 and a club prize of £173. With her husband, who is builder, she has six sons and one daughter to spend the cash on.

"I was playing with my sister and niece. The worst bit was waiting to see if anyone else in the country had called in less numbers. I knew I was in with a chance having called in 37. The club staff were very nice to us and gave us a bottle of champagne," she said.

"I expect we will pay off a few debts and spend some money on the family. The younger boys are already getting very excited. They think it's Christmas come again."

The latest run of success at the Ipswich Gala club began in August last year when a man won £208,000 and this was followed by wins of £48,000 in November and £92,000 on December 3.
