PEDAL pushing teenager Richard Phillips looks set to have raised hundreds of pounds for Hadleigh Animal Rescue.

The warm hearted 18-year-old of Timperly Close, Hadleigh cycled 35 miles in two hours and collected more than £300 in advanced pledges for the venture.

The fundraising event was plunged into trouble when Richard's escort, who was needed for safety and verification, pulled out at the eleventh hour due to ill health and with only 42 hours to go, no replacement had been found.

Thankfully Royal Signals motorbike display team rider Terry Morris of Reynolds Road, Ipswich stepped and accompanied Richard on a renovated 800cc BMW motorbike.

Hadleigh mayor Jan Byrne set the duo off from the Market Place and they made laps of a route around surrounding villages to complete the challenge.

Founder of Hadleigh Animal Rescue (HAR) Joan Canham said: "I would like to thank Richard, Joan and Terry for all their time and effort. It was much appreciated."
