A TEENAGER who celebrated a milestone birthday by drunkenly trying to coax his best friend into a fight has been granted a conditional discharge.

Jody Lemmon, of Highfield Road, Felixstowe, admitted using threatening behaviour on his 18th birthday, South East Suffolk Magistrates heard.

Police officers were called to a disturbance at the town's Flying Boat Inn on Sea Road where a group of people were ejected from the pub.

Lemmon, who was not involved with the group, tried to go into pub and was told not to go, prosecutor Lesla Small told magistrates.

He walked off down the road being using foul language. "His behaviour was quite loud and rowdy," said Mrs Small.

When officers told him to calm down Lemmon was seen trying to provoke his best friend into a fight. When quizzed by police Lemmon said his friend had made insulting remarks.

Barry Newman, mitigating, said: "This was Mr Lemmon's 18th birthday. He and his best friend went out for the evening. He had a few too many to drink and had an argument."

He said the pair went to the Flying Boat Inn where officers were dealing with an unrelated incident and the situation developed.

The court heard dock worker Lemmon has taken action to address his anger.

Bench chairwoman Anne Walker, gave him a year's conditional discharge, saying: "It was a blip which brought you into the adult court which could have been best avoided."
