FIREFIGHTERS have today carried out a bizarre rescue after a child got his fingers stuck in a parking meter.

The four-year-old's curiosity got the better of him when he placed his hand inside the coin return slot of the machine in the Cineworld car park in Bury St Edmunds at about 12.05pm.

His mother had been paying for a ticket. After putting his fingers inside the slot the youngster found he wasn't able to remove them.

A fire crew from Bury was called to the scene and they used washing up liquid to make the boy's fingers slippery enough for them to glide free.

The drama was all over by shortly after 12.20pm.

The boy escaped with slight bruising to his fingers.
