BLACK youngsters will have their say on how they are policed at an all-day event aimed to improve community relations in Suffolk.

Teenagers from black and ethnic minority backgrounds will get together to express their thoughts and concerns about policing at "Black Meets Blue II" – at Ipswich Town Football Club tomorrow.

TV comedian Felix Dexter, from The Fast Show, will host the day for 14 to 18-year-olds.

Workshops will give teenagers a chance to air their views on issues from their rights to racial harassment.

There will be competitions and prizes as well as a tour of the football club and lunch plus T-shirts and free cinema tickets at the end of the day for those who attend.

Tanesha Wedderburn, a 16-year-old Suffolk College student, said: "I'm hoping the day will result in better relations between the young black people and the police. The debates during the day will take into consideration racial issues and give young people the opportunity to have their say."

Inspector Peter Haystead, of Suffolk Police, said: "The aim of Black Meets Blue II is for young people to find out more information from the police and our partners: the support available following racist incidents and why they should tell us about them.

"We want to find out their views on the service provided by Suffolk Police and get ideas about how we can communicate with each other better."

The day runs from 10am to 4pm and teenagers from 14 to 18 and from black and ethnic minority communities are welcome to attend.
