Blaze at Anton House flats in Ipswich being treated as arson
An investigation is underway today after a fire broke out in a block of flats in Ipswich last night.
Firefighters, police and ambulance crews were called to Anton House in Grimwade Street at around 2.40am.
The fire – which caused several people to be evacuated from their homes – is now being treated as arson, a police spokesman said this morning.
Crews used one hose reel and two sets of breathing apparatus to bring the blaze under control.
It is believed the fire started in the bin store beneath the building, and initially fire crews believed there were people trapped in the flat above.
No-one was injured in the fire.
Any witnesses should call Ipswich police on 101 quoting crime reference 64023/16 with information.
