INVESTIGATIONS are underway today after a car, two sheds, and a wheelie bin were destroyed in a blaze in Ipswich.

The fire happened in the back garden of flats at the town end of London Road and spread to a neighbouring car park.

One resident, who did not want to be named, said: “The first we knew of it was when we got a knock on the door at about 6.30am.

“A man had been walking past, saw the flames coming from the back and thought the flat was on fire.

“The flames must have been at least ten foot high at one point and at first I didn't realise the car was involved.

“It was only when the firemen started damping down the flames that I saw it.

“I was petrified it was going to blow up.”

The blaze took two fire crews about 20 minutes to put out.

A young woman was seen running from the garden just after the fire started and the contents of a wheelie bin at a neighbouring house had also been tipped out.

A spokeswoman for Suffolk police confirmed they were called to the scene by the fire service but could not yet confirm whether the blaze is being treated as suspicious.
